Richard Merhige founded Advanced Maintenance Engineering in 1992, which became Advanced Mechanical Enterprises (AME) in 2002. Guided by Rich’s expertise, AME is recognized as an external specialist for condition monitoring by the American Bureau of Shipping. Before launching AME, Rich worked as an engineer for prominent organizations Westinghouse, David Taylor Naval Research Center, and Boaz Allen & Hamilton. He conducted sea trials, major equipment overhauls, and installations throughout the USA and around the world. Rich earned a bachelor’s degree in marine engineering from the State University of New York Maritime College. He enhanced his education in systems and ocean engineering at Virginia Polytechnic and George Washington Universities. Finally, he furthered his specialized training and earned a USCG License as a Second Assistant.
