Mechanical Reliability Engineer
Location: Montréal, CA

This Will Include
The Mechanical Reliability Engineer is responsible for improving the rolling stock maintenance program by analyzing the causes of defects, identifying solutions and implementing plans and corrective actions. They will define maintenance tasks and procedures and support maintenance centre employees and managers.
- Ensuring that equipment conforms to safety and Transport Canada standards and regulations as well as industry standards
- Investigating and identifying the root causes of defects, using data and appropriate analysis techniques (e.g., root cause, 5Y, Fish Bone) and preparing plans to correct those defects
- Ensuring that customers’ experience meets the VIA Rail’s high-quality standards for its passengers
What You Can Expect In This Position
- Finding concrete solutions for improving the efficiency of the rolling stock maintenance program
- Finding the root causes of defects in a context where information is not always centrally available
- Strategically allocating updates of technology and/or required equipment to older trains
- Intelligently aligning priorities and deliverables to align interdepartmental needs with workforce capacity
- Staying abreast of ongoing best practices in order to develop broader expertise with respect to interiors, electrical systems, engines, etc.
Requirements
This position is right for you if you have:
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- 3–5 years of experience in a similar role, including work in a unionized maintenance centre
- Experience in the transportation industry (railway an asset)
- Good knowledge of the operational constraints of a large-scale 24-hour maintenance centre
- Bilingualism in English and French (spoken and written)
