Ultrasound technology is one of the least expensive, most effective condition monitoring technologies available. In this session we’ll begin with a discussion on its cost/effectiveness ratio, and continue on with what technicians can do, starting with getting trained as a level 1 technician, so the fundamentals are understood, then using that understanding, walk down the equipment, even beginning the development of a hierarchy based on ISO 14224; using that knowledge, build a business case – leaks are very expensive and we’ll discuss just how much; having identified leaks, set up a process to correct, and maintain; get into using ultrasound for determining lube requirements for bearings, followed by educating electrical techs on the use of ultrasound in detecting and avoiding arc flash conditions; get involved in RCA and RCA to better understand failure modes and causes; with this understanding, begin to learn new technologies and how they complement ultrasound, along with new applications, and finally, sharing the knowledge among your peers and supervisors.
